So that by the labor of obedience you might return to Him from
Whom by the sloth of disobedience you fell. (Prologue of the Holy Rule)

A means of restoring our innocence, manual labor is essential for combating vice and cultivating virtue. Appointed hours of work are for domestic chores (cleaning, cooking, gardening, etc.), as well as for works of the external, limited Apostolate such as sewing of vestments, making altar cloths, etc. These works are carried out in a spirit of silence. (See SILENCE)
Other than our own community's maintenance, the labor of our hands is devoted to the service of Our Lord in His priest as he carries out his three-fold mission of governing, instructing and sanctifying souls. We make vestments, altar linens, incense, put sacristies in order or any of those things which would make more w
orthy the offering of the sublime Sacrifice of the Mass. Priests in need of rest or a retreat are welcome. Secretarial or catechetical services are limited to that which is only in keeping with our monastic way of life.
